Beyond Recidivism: A New Era of Measuring Reentry Success
Hosted by The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center
The recidivism rate has been the go-to way to measure success after jail or prison. But solely defining reentry that way fails to track whether people have stable housing, access to health care, employment, or social connections—critical factors that could prevent recidivism. In June, we published Beyond Recidivism: Redefining Measures to Understand Reentry Success, a new brief from our Reentry 2030 team that breaks down 5 measures (and dozens of metrics) every state should track to improve reentry and advance second chances.
In this virtual discussion featuring national experts and state corrections leaders from across the country, you will learn:
- How states are adopting more holistic, data-driven frameworks to measure reentry success
- Key indicators of long-term stability and success—such as housing, employment, education, and health
- Practical strategies for improving reentry and reducing recidivism
This event is open to anyone but especially relevant for leaders in criminal justice, education, employment, health, behavioral health, housing, and reentry.
